SHOOTING ACCIDENT.

MAORI LOSES RIGHT HAND. [BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] WHANGAREI, Tuesday. A Maori, Joseph Matthew, of Kaikou, about 40 miles from Whangarei, lost his right hand following an injury received while shooting rabbits yesterday. He was climbing through a fence when the shotgun he was carrying exploded, severely injuring his right hand. On being admitted to the Whangarei District Hospital it was found necessary to amputate the hand. The patient's condition this evening is satisfactory.
