TE AWAMUTU NOTES.

PEGAWAY TURNED OUT. AWARERE AS A JUMPER. PROTOMINT RESUMES WORK. [FROM OUR OWN* CORRESPONDENT.J TE AWAMUTU. Monday. With no immediate meetings to engage attention, To Awamutu trainers are having a quiet time at present. A fair amount of serviceable work is being accomplished by various horses, but no serious galloping has been attempted since the Te Kuiti meeting. Pe; jaway has not made a reappearance on the tracks since Te Kuiti, but has been turned out at Air. M. Tims' farm. While looking as hale and hearty as ever. Pegfiway has evidently lost a good deal of his dash and it is doubtful whether ho will be required to do much further racing. Awarere, who was recently schooled over tho pony hurdles, is at present laid aside with a big knee, but should not bo long out of action. In his three races this season Awarere has not shown his old dash, and, as ho looks like making a dashing jumper, ho may make his next appearance as a hurdler. Another good sprinter. Leitrim, has also been given schooling lessons over the pony hurdles. Ho jumps moro carefully than Awarere, but shows aptitude for jumping and should soon become a proficient jumper with regular schooling. Protomint, who has been spelling for severiil months, has been taken in hand again and is putting plenty of dash into the easy tasks he is being allotted. Protomint revels in soft going and should prove a good winter proposition if ho stands up to training. Although he is a fair jumper, Goodfellow docs not display much speed in his training. Moreover, his legs are not tho best, and hia prospects of reaching really good company do not appear bright. J. W. Cathro's Team. J. W. Cathro, who now occupies the late F. E. Loomb's stables, lias four horses in commission. Ilia charges have all been doing easy work lately, and should pay their way later on. It is understood that Cathro is to take over the Waipa Racing Club's stables, which were last occupied by W. Stone. . . , . , Nassru Lady is being kept in regular work an.l bears a bright appearance. She run a fair race while her condition lasted at Te Kuiti, but it looks as if her owner will have trouble to place her to advantage. Nassau Lady's stablemate. transaction. may be a better proposition, as she has lately made some improvement. Mr. A. Rowan has disposed of Egyptian King to R. \V. Lewis, trainer of Billy Boy. Egyptian King is a four-year-old gelding by Nassau from Sphinx, nr.d will in future be trained at Kllerslie, \vliorß be will be prepared for jumping races. Limeen was in a bad way after lo J\uiti and it is doubtful if she will race again for some time. At her best Limeen is very useful and it is bad luck for rl. h. Russell that all has not gone well with her. The other members of Russell a team, including Spalpiko. aro doing load * Eager Rose bears a bright appearance after her good race at Te Kuiti and is getting through her work pleasingly. Arawa Rose, the half-sister, by Musketoon. to Ea~er Rose, pleased in her lust race at Te°Kuiti, but has not a great deal of size. She is at present having an easy time. A horse who is standing up to his work better than he has done previously is Shamgar. At present he is far from being thoroughly ready, but there is evidently hope that G. Paul will yet be able to race him. Shamgar is capable .of showing speed above tho average and it is a pity that he is unsound.

Leu Reappears. I R Savage's two-year-olds. Loombinafion and' Krination, have been physicked and ■ they have been on the easy list. Loombination showed speed early, but failed to improve as much as expected. As lie is a big youngster ho should <lo better next season. , , , . After a long: '-pell Len has made his reappearance at Te Awainutu. Len shaped well until he wont wrong and it remains to be seen whether he will stand a preparation. If he keeps sound he may join the jumping brigade. , , . . Bam bury, who ha 3 only raced twice, for one win, has t.een fired and is spelling. A. Cook lias only a small team m work at present, and i 3 devoting most of nis attention to three yearlings. Kanapa is improving with every race and on his Te Kuiti running suggests that it will not bo long before he reaches the winning list. Other members of G. Paul s team, King's Knave and Mareehal. are on the easy list and neither may be called upon to race for some time. TAKANINI TRACK NEWS. HAUWIRI'S GOOD PROGRESS. IMPUDENT AND TIMOROUS. "Weather and track conditions were ideal for training purposes at Takanini yesterday, but there was I;(tie fast work. The middle grass and the plough tracks were in use. Impudent (Jones) and Timorous (Moore) were both going easily nt the end of fivo furlongs in J.G 4-5. Both could have dono much better. Hauwiri (.Tones) was going strongly alongside Dervish (Moore) at the end of half-a-mile in 52 4-ss. Hauwiri is developing into a fine colt and lie appears to have corne on well since running third at Avondnle. Hard Words (Jones) was not Rsked for his best to run five furlongs in 1.5. Ho is making very satisfactory progress. King March (Moore) was going comfortably throughout a five furlongs sprint in 1.8 2-5. Ho is steadily improving in appearance and will bo a handsome horse when ho reaches racing condition. Refresher ran an easy fivo furlongs on the grass. He will npt be taken to Australia. but' is a likely runner at the winter meetings. Niglrt Warrior (Burgess) and Lady Vnno (McFarland) ran half-a-mile on the plough in 5:1 2-ss. They arc the only two of J. L. Cray's charges at present being given fast work. , . White Wings, who is duo to leave for Australia in (ho " p;ir re, is doing lust enough work to keep her fit. She will bo in nice order to go ahead when I<. McGrath takes her over r , The three-year-old filly I'oulwind. by Capo Horn— Molting Moment, has been purchased from Mr. N. M.
