TRENTHAM HORSES.

CANDIDATES FOR AWAPUNI. NIGHTMARCH'S SIX FURLONGS. CIMABUE AND TOBACCOLAND. [FROM Ot'll OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Monday. Nightmarch Ims been at Trenthnm since his arrival f;i«n Sydney last Tuesday. A. McAulay weivi Soutli on tho night of arrival, and Nightmarch was given a dose of physic. McAulay arrived back on Saturday, and Nightmarch was galloped for the first time this morning. Ho went the roverso way on the outside of tho course proper, six furlongs, in 1.17, giving a companion a long start and beating him homo comfortably. L. J. Ellis was in tho saddle. Nightmarch did hi 3 work well, but there was nothing exceptional about the gallop. Cimabue and Tobaccoland galloped sis furlongs on the outside of tho course proper at Trentham this morning in 1.17, both going well. Cimabue was sore on pulling up, but no wsrso than usual. Pahu is continuing to show promise in his jumping. This morning after a school he ran tteven furlong 3 in 1.33. L. J. Ellis ind G. Humphries, who made tho trip from Christchurch for tho Masterton meeting, remained over for tho Manawatu fixture t his week, and they were both out riding work at Trentham this morning. Mrs. E. J. Woodcock, wife of T. Woodcock, trainer of Phar Lap during his trip to America, is a through passenger by the Mouowai for San Francisco. Mrs. "Woodcock will join her husband in San Francisco. Grand Jury, winner of the Masterton Cup, has been one of the most consistent performers of the season. He starled in hack company, winning at Feilding in November, and in the past few months has done well in open company, having won tho Foxton Cup, Ashhurst Cup, Wanganui Cup and Rangitikei Cup. Grand Jury is not a big ge.ding, but he is a wiry customer, who dues not carry any superfluous flesh, and he is a rare sticker at the finish of his race 3. Lyrical racid a great deal better at Masterton tin.n she did at the Wairarapa Easter meeting. She needed a race the first day, and may have won the second day, but was not quito herself. Historic made his reappearance at Masterton after a spell of several months from racing. He ran in tho open six-furlong events each day, and was never dangerous. He is engaged in similar events at Manawatu this week, and with the opposition considerably stronger his chances negligible. However, lie stood up well to his racing and will bo improved by it. Rational II made the trip from Riccarton for the Masterton and Manawatu meetings. He ran a good race in tho Masterton Cup. and on the second day got up to win in fast lime for the mile. W. McDonald has effected great improvement in Rational 11., who promises to run well again at Awapuni. . Easter Tims was kicked at the post in the Masterton Cup and was unable to start on Saturday. The trouble is not expected to be serious, and he should run well in his engagements at Awapuni. There was a lot of money for Constant Sun in (lie Masterton Cup, and his party evidently backed him with the greatest confidence. Constant Sun was prominent for a mile, but he finished near tho tail of the field. He looked well enough, and there did not appear any excuse for his failure. The company, however, was fairly strong and better than any he had previously met. Joie de Vo'. disappointed her connections at Masterton Tho sister to Degage is a good galloper, but she appears to need plenty of room in a race, and does not go kindly when hemmed in on the rails. She is up against big fields again at Awapuni. Gold Sand jjulled up lame after her racing at Masterton on Saturday. She has been taken ovev again by J. McLaughlin from S. J. Reid. who trained her during McLaughlin's absence in Sydney. H Pritchard will leave Trentham on Wednesday for Nelson with Flower. Purse and Black Mint. Flower showed good form at Masterton, and is the most likely of the team to earn money on tho Nelson trip. Orapai just won at M as terton on Saturday, and shoved signs both days that he was not at his best. He left for Palmerston by float after the races with Easter Time and Gibraltar. J. O'Neill, who trains Orapai, said that he would probably go right on to New Plymouth and let Orapai forfeit his engagements at the Manawatu meeting.

ELLERSI/IE TRACK WORK. ACTIVITY AMONG JUMPERS. GOOD DISPLAY BY ABSENT. BY ARCHER. Comparatively' little fast work was attempted at Kllerslie yesterday, when the principal interest was provided by the jumpers, several of whom schooled well. On the No. 3 grass Marching Song (Fergus) and United (McTuvish) sprinted four furlongs in 51 4-ss. They finished together and both worked satisfactorily. Marching Song is on tins improve and United is 'again making good prog less after his spell. Psychologist (Stanway) completed a serviceable task with four furlongs in 56 3-ss. Psychologist i'ooks well after his autumn racing and n:>w appears to be completely rid of the cold which affected him for some W< Hampton Park (Simpson) and Touiours (Mcßue) stroce over six furlongs in 1.24 2-o. Hampton Park is a fit horse after his recent racing zind Toujours is ulso showing improved condition. Moonfleet CVfcTavish) was timed to run (he last threo furlongs of his work in _J9 3-ss.
