AN APPEAL FROM THE NORTH.
Sir,-—Seeing that the camps in the vicinity of Auckland arc receiving a lot of publicity, I make an appeal on behalf of the 80 men who are isolated in the single men's camp iu Awaroa, 50 miles from the rail head at Okaihau. With the winter coming on tho majority of these men are urgently in need of clothing, boots, etc., and unless something is done by sympathisers in Auckland in the near future, the outlook for the coming winter is very cheerless on account of our isolated position. Almost half of the men in camp art* returned soldiers, who gave some of the best years of their lives for their country, and are now working for practically their keep, as with the winter coming on, it will bo practically impossible to earn 5s per •week, let alone 10s. We have an active camp committee, who have done quite a lot to improve the conditions of the camp generally, and the secretary will be pleased to give any particulars to well-wishers or similar committees in other camps regarding conditions here. Literature in any form will be very acceptable. B. Howlett. Secretary, Camp Welfare Committee. C.o. F. A. Moody, Kohukohu R.D,
