MANUAL TRAINING.
Sir, —I noticed that there i<; a dune of abolishing' manual training in Zealand. We preach the doctrine of the strenuous life, the life of toil and effort If the education of children is going to be all obtained from books, we rob them Sif much that would help them in the practical walk of life. Surely the Education Department is not going to part with the specialists in our manual training schools. If not trained in a p rac ! tical way, how are the boys and girls going to face the problems of life an( } manipulate the things of the world so that they may best serve mankind ? it is a well-known fact that boys and girls whose hands have altogether been tntrained up to the fifteenth year a r9 practically incapable of hij;;h manual efficiency ever afterwards. Interested.
