OTAIRI IN WORK AGAIN. KING COLOSSUS' GALLOP. [.FROSI OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PALMLRSTOIs NORTII, Thursday. Although tho Awapuni tracks have benefited by rain, tho downpour was really insufficient. Botu the course proper and the plough were in use (his morning, but there was not u great deal of fast work. Seneschal, who is looking very bright, ran six furlongs on the plough in 1.21 1-5. Covering tho last three in -12 3-sb. Boiiconsfield ran six furlongs in 1.25. Ho benefited by his outings at Feilding and should be in better order by the time the local fixture comes round. King Colossus had The Mirror as a partner over a milo on the plough in 1.51. tho last five furlongs taking 1.12 3-5. King Colossus was doing it comfortably at the finish. Ncublac, ii gelding by Arausio from Itniuos, ran half a mile on the outside of the course proper in 5255. It was a promising effort in view of tho fact that he has not yet raced. Ebeum, by Lackluun from a half-sister to Inah. and Minstrel Lad. a lialf-brother to Arrow Lad and Arajean. covered half a mile on the course proper in 55 2-ss. They were not pushed out and both are likely sorts to make good later on. Schooling of Jumpers. Yesterday morning advantage was taken of the easier ground to jump Easterly. Callamart and Henry of Navarre, all three giving good displays. It was Callimart's first essay since winning the Grand National Hurdles and he negotiated his feucos boiuowliat carefully. GuereSs, with A. E. Stvatton in tho saddle, did a round over tho battens, jumping cleanly, with fair pace on. A six-year-old Gasbag gelding was sont over the small brush fences in the bullring prior to doing a round over the country. This maiden should develop into a useful steeplechaser. Otairi, winner of £2075 in stakes last season, has rejoined L. lvnapp's string and was among the early workers this morning. Ho looks in great order and it. is apparent that he had been hacked about prior' to being sent down from Ilunterville. Easterly is to be ridden at Maslerton bv R. ('. Miles. Miles will also pilot Tai Ao if the Gisborne lepresentative attends tho fixture. \\ r . France and W. J. McDowell will make tho trip to Hastings for Saturday's meeting. France will ride Joe in tlio Maiden and McDowell will pilot Pewa, Sabatini and Mart nr.

Oiueo looks vastly improved compared with liis appearance 12 months ago. lie should enjoy a much better season this •winter. The Lackhum filly Bonnio Vale, who is a stable companion of Saltpot. is growing into a shapely sort and gives evidence of possessing speed. Moutoa Treasury is displaying a reluctance to venture out on to the tracks and it required some perseverance to get her to work this morning. . "Lll fly Court, who ran second to Ini Ao on the second day nt Feilding, has built up in condition and J. Manuel should have, better luck with her in Ihe near future. Ythan. a Colossus—Waikohu colt, who claims relationship through his dam with Piliicwinkie, Ballymeuit and Limerick, is developing into a nice two-year-old. As not a great deal has beeil asked of him. lie should enjoy a good career as a three-year-old . W. Stone will probably ho represented at Mastcrton by both Alpinist and Thornproof. They are doing we.ll in the tasks allotted 1o them, while Thornproof already appears to bo building up.

The grass tracks could do with eomo more rain, but the plough, which was exclusively used, is- in good order. Winter hours are now being generally observed, but C. Pritchard still takes advantage of the available daylight before breakfast. He has Autopay looking very well after his successful trip to Riccnrtou, Ho was not given any fast work this morning, but earlier in the week he sprinted well on tho course proper when it was available. S. J. Re.id is not giving any of bis team exacting tasks, but is keeping them moving along usefully, always under a. gupd hold. Clangor, Historic. Lyrical and Eminent did short sprints at the end of their work. Historic will probably race at Mastcrton. The two-year old Might is being kept in training, doing quiet work. A. Goodman has returned from tho \\ est Coast, where he won a race with Ladv Rene." He sold the mare on the trip, the price being modest, Jle is now givin., his attention to Trayniela, who will race next at Mastcrton. The Tea Tray two-yeor-old showed promise at Wairarapn, at Easter. He will lie a big horse when ho has finished growing. W. Marks has blistered St. Roger and is going very quietly with Cimabue, who looks very " dicky" in front. H. Pritchard is keeping Flower and Mullnboden going. Gay Court is beginning to stride along in his work His joint, has cleaned up nicely and lie built up well during his spell. He will probably race first at Wanganui and may go on to Auckland for the Juno meeting. . . . Pahu has been brought in again, and. in view of the jumping season, he is being schooled over the hurdles. Tobaccoland was worked on the lead, a new method of handling him.

Donald was to-day negotiating for a lease of Gumdigger, but Hie matter lias been held over until after the horse races to-morrow. ff n deal is completed Donald will send Gumdigger to Te Aroha and succeeding fixtures with Sister Rose. If Donald does not agree to the terms the horse may later go south to Shaw's stable.
