CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING.
NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP 'I ho Metropolitan Gun Club opened its North Island championship tournament, yesterday, with two i'so handicap matches, each of 24 birds. The championship, consisting of 21 birds. IS yards rise, will ho shot off to-day. preliminary matches startiiiK lit 10 a.m.. and the championship at noon. Anions the large number of spectators and shooters were representatives from Ilawke's Bay. East Coast, Taranaki, King Country, North Auckland and the Waikato. The scores show excellent, shooting by visiting as well us local competitors. 'Nip first, i'oO match was divided anions: the following six shooters, who each scored ■the poaiiible of 21 birds,A. -Malcolm (Llyds), Huntly; J. Donnelly (12yds). Metropolitan: J. McMulluu (15yds), Kaikohe; l'\ K. _ Cox (17yds), Taumajrunui; A. E. Macrcdic (llyds), Metropolitan; C. E. Hodce, ( lSyds), Auckland. Twelve other shooters shot 2'i birds each. The second X'3o match, also of 21 birds, was divided bv the following nine shooters, who tied with tho possilileM. Pratt (20 yds). Otorohanga; J. .Donnelly (14yds), Metropolitan: S. C,Jennie (16yds), Gisbome; Cr. H. Brown (15yds). Metropolitan: F. E. Cox (lOydsl, Tanmai'iinui; ,T. Winiki (12 vds), New Plymouth; \V. Simmonds (Ifiyds), Toncatua: F". Serronibe t l lyds).
