TRAMS FROM STATION.

NONE TO MEET LATE TRAIN. TRANSPORT BOARD'S ATTITUDE. Tiio fact that 110 trams were provided to meet the daylight limited express on its late arrival from Wellington on Monday night was referred yesterday to the Railway Department and the Auckland Transport Board. A departmental official stated that the Transport Board was advised during the evening that the train was a very heavy one, carrying an unusually largo number of passengers, and that it was travelling late. The department considered it was its duly to convey that information, together with the approximate time of arrival, after which its responsibility ended. Tho chairman of the Transport Board, Mr. J. A. C. Alluin, said that about two years ago it was the practico to delay the last tramcars to await tho arrival of tho train from Wellington, but members of the public who were waiting to join the trams along the various routes complained strongly of tin- indeterminate delay. As tho result of these, complaints it was decided that the Inst trams should not wait longer than 10 minutes when tho train was running late. The information supplied by the Railway Department on Monday night was that the train would not reach Auckland until midnight. To keep back tho late cars on 13 routes until that'hour would have greatly inconvenienced the public expecting to join them. Moreover, if 13 extra cars had been brought into service the additional expense would have been altogether disproportionate to tho revenue that would havo been received and would liavo been a very uneconomical proposition in these difficult times. It was verv probable that some of tho cars would have had no passengers.
