In the annual Marist Rugby tournament, concluded here to-day, Auckland retained the Spillane Cup, defeating Wellington A by 11 points to 6 in the final, Play was fast throughout. In the firet half M. Smith scored twice for Auckland, Cornthwaite failing to convert. In the second half Webb and Mills scored unconverted tries for Wellington. Near the call of time, Dunn, an Aackland forward, who had played a solid game, uecured possession and forced his way over. Elliott converted. In the semi-final Auckland easily defeated Wellington B by 2a points to 3. Hamilton defeated Wellington A by 22 to G. Wunsanui beat Napier by 9 to 6. The Moran Cup, for the teim playing tho best defensive game, was awarded to Wanganui.
