TEACHERS' APPOINTMENTS. Discretionary power is now nLowed education boards in tlie matter of appointmollis to junior high schools and junior high school departments, according to advice in flic latest issue of the OjlZOtte. Previously it was mandatory for the controlling authority to select Hie. applicant who was highest on the grading list of primary school teachers, but now, as in the case of appointments to primary schools, the highest-graded applicant need not necessarily be selected. The chairman of the Auckland Education Board, Mr. A. Burns, stated yesterday that his board had wished to obtain discretionary power for junior high school appointments. The appointments, as hitherto, will bo subject to the endorsement of the Education Department..
