FEROCIOUS DOGS.

POLICE KEPT AT BAY.

AFTER THE OWNER'S DEATH

After Mr. Charles Simmons, years, ot Filzroy, Melbourne, died on February 27 from injuries received that day in a fall from a picnic van at Footscray, constables went to his home, where they were threatened by two ferocious Airedale dogs which were in the yard. Mr. Simmons, who was a postal employee, lived alone, his wife having died in November. Again on the following day the constables went to the house and the dogs kept them at bay. It was intended to chloroform the animals, and the police Bought the assistance of the officials of the Lost Dogs' Home. Four constables went to the house with an expert in handling dogs. The dogman captured them without any trouble with a lassoo whip, placed them in his cart and drove them to the Lost Dogs' Home.
