CONTROL OF TRAINS.

NEW SYSTEM EXTENDED. PROMOTION OF EFFICIENCY. The new system of train control, which is in operation between Auckland and Frankton Junction, has been extended between Ohakune and Marton Junction. Eventually the entire railway service from Auckland to Wellington will be controlled by the new system. The essential element in the now system of control is that train operations are controlled by one officer at headquarters, thus relieving stationmasters and tablet porters from the responsibility of making many individual decisions. Instead of the decision being left with a number of officers when and where trains should cross, the new system leaves entire control with one mind, a very complete telephone system enabling the effects of crossings to be visualised over a great area of country. Considerable economies and speeding-up can bo effected under the new system.
