REMARKS IN FAR-OFF ICELAND
Dr. Lodewyckx, Associate Professor of Germanic Languages at the University of Melbourne, returned recently after an absence of 12 months, for four of which ho conducted research into the Icelandic language.
It was stated by Dr. Lodewyckx that ho found marked interest in Australia and a considerable knowledge of Australian conditions among the people of Iceland One citizen of Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, had asked him whether New South Wales was not a part of Australia, and on being told that it was, remarked: "Oh, yes, that is tho part of Australia where the people do no pay their debts." The president of the townplanning committee in that city questioned him closely regarding Canberra, and proved that he had made a close study of tho plans of the Federal capital.
