SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS.
APPROVAL BY UNIVERSITY. THE SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS. Awards in several scholarships were reported to the council of the Auckland University College at a meeting yesterday. The following awards were approved : The Lieutenant-Commander W. E. Sanders, V.C., memorial-scholarship : B. K. Ledger, Pukekohe. Wilson and Horton prize in journalism, best student of the year: J. M. Bertram. Hugh Campbell scholarship in law: W. M. Milliken. Special law scholarship: T. V. Fitzpatrick. Lissie Rathbone entrance scholarship: G. S. Roper, Auckland Grammar School. Sprtcial grant under Sir James Gunson scholarship in agriculture: W. M. Hamilton.
The registrar, Mr. M. B. O'Shea, reported that B. K. Ledger, the successful candidate for tha Lieutenant-Com-mander Sanders scholarship, had special qualifications, as his father served on H.M.S. Britannia, at the Naval Training College, and H.M.S. Prince George, Berwick, Cornwall and Duncan, and at the Naval College at Portsmouth. The Lissie Bathbone scholarship had been awarded to G. S. Boper, next on the list to Miss F. J. Irvine, who had declined the scholarship owing to winning another entrance examination.
The following appointments were approved : —Student demonstrator in botany, Miss K. J. Wakelin; student demonstrator in physics, Mr. A. Rudd ; honorary research associate of the faculty of education, Miss E. M. Johnston.
