FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES. SOCIAL FUNCTIONS HELD. The Loyal Mount Albert Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., hold another of its popular concert and dance evenings on Wednesday in tho King George Hall, Mount Albert. Somo very fino selections were rendered by <ho lodge orchestra, under tho baton of Bro. Martin. Other enjoyable items, for which much appreciation was shown, were several instrumental solos by Bio. T. Sherwood (violin) and Bro. Keatlcy (flute), whilo well-received solos were sung by Mrs. E. Ashor (soprano), and Mr. J. Lonergan (bass). At the conclusion of tho concert an uiijoyablo dance was held.
Tho Gordon Tent, 1.0.1t., met at Onehunga on Tuesday evening, tho Chief Ruler, Bro. Pace, presiding over a fair attendance. A report was given of tho oflicial visit paid to the Hope of Auckland Tent, when an extremely pleasant evening was spent. Thanks were tendered to Ihe secretary for his efforts toward making tho visit a success and to tbu.so members who so willingly gave tho uso of I heir motor-curs. 'llic business of tho evening was quickly but ellicicntly dealt with, after which several interesting games of bowls were played.
The, annual meeting of the Loyal Good Intent Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held on February 29, there being an exceptionally large attendance. This may lnivo been accounted for by tho fact, that several remits appeared upon the agenda paper. Tho balance-sheet showed that in spite of the depression, the funds were in a healthy state, and that, not one penny of interest was owing on any of the lodge's investments. Ihe benefits of friendly society membership were clearly shown by the fact that the average, contribution per member was £1 19s 9d. while the average sick payment was £2 5s per member. This lodgo is making a. bravo fight to assist members who are, out of employment, and a considerable
sum has been voluntarily collected for that purpose. Bro. J. lloulahan, P. was presented with a framed emblem for bis past services, the brother having served a double term in the chair, owing to the continued illness of Sister L. McRae, NO. Bro. B. L. Oatt, P. 0., was reelected auditor. After the business paper had been disposed of, the members amused themselves with cards and pingpong.
The Endeavour Lodge, T.0.G.T., met on Wednesday evening in the Unity Hall lodgo room, Bro. Barrie, C.T., presiding. An oflicial visit, was received from tho Enterprise. Lodge, No. 80, tho members of which were accorded a proper Good Templar welcome. Bro. Carlaw was reported to be indisposed, and the sympathy of the members was tendered him. Sister Hodgkinson, G.V.I'., presented Grand Lodgo degree certificates to Bro. Barrie and Sister Anderson. Items were contributed by Sisters "Eileen and Gladys Pace and Bro. J. Staeev, all being well received. Games and supper helped to fill in the. time very pleasantly until tho closing hour arrived.
The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Dominion Lodge was held on Tuesday evening, a large number of members being present. Two new candidates were initiated, the ceremony being well and impressively carried out. Dancing and cards were the main social features of the evening, these being interspersed with items rendered by Sister Mortensen and Bro. Lewis. Among the large number of visitors present were representatives from Loyal Parnell, Chevalier, Richmond, Ronsonby, Avon, Good Intent, Franklin and Mount, Albert lodges.
The Enterprise Lodge, No. 80, 1.0. G.T., met on Thursday evening, (he C.T., Bro. Ghudderton, presiding. Sister Henrieksen. who had been elected to tho office of deputy-marshal, was duly installed by the L.D., Bro. Jamieson. The remits to be discussed by the Grand Lodgo were brought before the meeting and the wishes of the members conveyed to their delegate. A Temperance Sunday is to bo arranged in tho Mount Boskill district in the near future, the arrangements being left in the hands of the C.T. The Grand Lodge delegate was asked to convey the greetings of both senior and Juvenile lodges >o the officers and members in the South. At the conclusion of tho business a talk on "The Temperance Movement of To-day" was given by Bro. Pace, superintendent of educational work. The serving of a light supper made a fitting conclusion to a pleasant evening. This lodgo lias just received another gift, that of a Biblo to be used in the lodgo sessions, and the thanks of the members were tendered to Sister Miss Chadderton for her generosity.
The Light of Manukau Lodge, U.A.0.D., met on Wednesday evening in tho Friendly Society Hall, Grey Street, Onehunga, tho A.D., Bro. Haskell, presiding over an attendance of about members. P.D.P., Bro. H. Pollock, of Roskill, and Bro. Jackson, of Ponsonbv, were present and received a good welcome. One new member was initiated into the mystic rites of Druidism, the cCremony being carried out in a proper way. Several items of business camo beforo the meeting and were well discussed. Tho social part of the evening was contributed to by several of tho brothers, refreshments being served as usual.
The Youthful Enterprise Juvenile Temple, 1.0. G.T., met on Thursday evening, a good attendance being presided over by the C.T., Sister E. Pace. Sister A. Thompson was reported to bo slightly better. She has received a letter from the temple. The grand secretary, Bro. Price, of Wellington, sent greetings. One new member received initiation, it apparently being tho usual thing for this lodge to receive new members at each meeting, with tho result that the roll is quickly growing. When tho business was concluded a mock court was held and caused much amusement.
