CANCER CAMPAIGN.
BRITISH EMPIRE SOCIETY. PROGRESS IN NEW ZEALAND. Very satisfactory reports from the career clinics connected with tho four metropolitan hospitals were received at the third annual meeting of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society, held at the University College yesterday. The president, Dr. J. S. Elliott, of Wellington, presided, and the attendance included delegates from eacli of the four divisions, Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago. A report of the research work being carried on under Dr. A. M. Begg at the Otago Medical School was received, and it was decided to forward it to the headquarters of the organisation in London for publication. • The balance-sheet showed a very satisfactory improvement in tho finances during the last 12 months. Tho president expressed gratitude to the public of Iscw Zealand for so enthusiastically supporting the Cancer Campaign art union, which brought in a profit of £16.700, to bo divided among the four divisions. 1» was decided to make every effort to concentrate supplies of radium in the four centres. The question of the use of rndon or radium salt was referred to tho -May meeting of the medical and research committee, and each of the four divisions was asked to supply its delegates with its opinion. With regard to provision being made for patients to travel to central hospitals it was decided to defer consideration of this point, as members of the Cancer Campaign Society were of opinion that this question is involved in tho reorganisation of the hospital system. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Dr. .T. S. Elliott; vice-presidents, Dr. H. 'J\ D. Acland and Mr. Kenneth Mackenzie; secretary and treasurer, Mr. li. Darroch.
