CALCUTTA "SWEEP."
NO TICKETS FROM BANKS. British banks have been requested by the Home Office to cease the issue of Calcutta Sweepstake tickets to clients. Ihis request was conveyed in an official letter which suggested that it would be undesirable to continue the practice of procuring Calcutta sweepstake tickets and forbade the batiks from doing so any further. The prohibition has come as a surprise to many hundreds of people who every year rely on the banks for their tickets. ' r lhe first we heard about the embargo was when we received a letter from the Home Office." an official of one of the principal banks said lately. " The letter asked us to stop selling Calcutta sweepstake tickets to our clients and so, of comse, We have cancelled our arrangements. Hundreds of our customers have bought tickets every year."
