annual meeting of league. The annual meeting of the Northcote Women's Progressive League was well attended. The vice-president, Mrs. F. W. Wilkes, presided in the absence of the president, Mrs. D. P. O'Leary, who was convalescing at Remuera after a period of illness. Tho report and balance-sheet, were adopted, and appropriate references made to the loss during the year by the deaths of Mrs. W. Dobbins and Mrs. N. E. Heath, and the removal of three other members from tho district. Jn her capacity as president, Mrs. O'Leary had written conveying the congratulations of the league to Mrs. J. A. Adams, of Princes Street, on the sixtieth anniversary of her wedding, and the secretary, Mrs. A. Taylor, with other members of tho league, had visited Mrs. Adams at her home on Monday last, and presented her with a bouquet, accompanied by expressions of goodwill from tho members. The syllabus for the current year was decided upon. Admiration was expressed for the. zealous interest taken by Mrs. O'Leiiry since tho inception of the league, and for tho great amount of work so capably done as president, for several years. In recognition of these valued past services, it was unanimously resolved to create the additional oflico "of patroness, and to bestow upon Mrs. O'Leary the honour of tho first occupant of this position. Appreciative references were made to the work of Mrs. A. Taylor as secretary; Mesdames P. Howden and F. C. Swinbnrik as the league's representatives on the National Council of Women; and to the energetic services of Miss M. Shutes, a member of the committee; and voles of thanks were recorded. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patroness, Mrs. D. P. 0 Leary; president, Mrs. F W. Wilkes; vicepresidenls. Mrs. A. Campbell and Miss L Treinain; committee. Mesdames E. G. Bailev, A. V. Tyer, N. B. Hams, A. J. Grant and M. Bowles; secretary and treasurer. Mrs. A. Taylor: delegates to the National Council of Women, Mesdames P. Howden and .T. Horan. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the members of tho newly-elected committee.
