LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.
IMPORTANT CONFERENCE. FUTURE WORK DISCUSSED. The Dominion conference of the New Zealand Leaguo of Mothers was held at the residence of Mrs. A. M. Ferguson, of Remuera, this week. '.I he personnel of the Dominion Council comprised the Dominion president, Mrs. J. F. Elliott (Wellington), the Dominion executive Dr. Elizabeth Bryson, Mrs. A. G. lalhoL (Auckland) and Mrs. E. Dawson (Dominion secretary); Auckland representatives, Mrs. A. M. Ferguson, provincial president, and Mrs. I'. W. Whyte, provincial secretary; Wellington representatives, Mrs. Charles White, provincial president, and Mrs. Mcßae; Otago representatives, Mrs. A. Falconer, Southland, Mrs. Chewings; representative of magazine, Mrs. G. Fleming. Dr. Elizabeth Bryson was granted leave of absence for the remainder of the year, Miss Mary Richmond (Wellington) being elected in her place. The Dominion officers were re-elected, and after the adoption of the annual report and balancesheet the various remits submitted by tlie provinces were dealt, with. A committee was also appointed to deal with Magazine business. Following the council meeting a combined executive meeting of the Dominion council and Auckland executive was held at, which several points of policy were discussed. An early church service was held in the Ilemuera Methodist Church on the second day conducted by the Rev. J. I'Martin. It was attended by the members of the Dominion council, the Auckland Provincial Committee and four officers from each branch in the Auckland Province as well as league visitors from other parts of the Dominion. After the service the business meeting was held at the residence of Mrs. A. M. Ferguson. Many greetings were received at this session, among them being those from the Ladv Alice Fergusson, founder of the league, 'Mrs. Sprott, Wellington, and the Mothers' Union. A welcome to visiting officers was given and bouquets were piesented to Dominion executive officers. In addressing members Mrs. Elliott, the> Dominion president spoke of the principles of the league and the urgent call of the times for fuller development. She pointed out that without violating league objects much could be done unostentatiously in the world members of the league under wise supervision. In returning thanks for the welcome received she spoke of the bond that existed between the branches, provinces, and Dominion executive, all of whom were working in harmony for the movement.
Dr. Elizabeth Bryson stressed the fact that the league was founded on love and a sound and sane understanding and interpretation of the objects of the league. She spoke of the relative unimportance of material things and gave the league n new vision of possible developments of the movement.
Mrs. Ernest Dawson replied to warm greetings extended and explained to the members points of policy. A discussion upon country branches and their programmes followed and tentative proposals were made for extending the usefulness of the league. _ At the conclusion of the conference, which members felt to have been of a very useful and practical nature, a vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Ferguson for her hospitality and to the Auckland committee for making it possible to hold the sessions. Members were the guests of Mrs. Ferguson for lunch at the first day s meeting.
