At the end of the first two stages of the King's Prize rifle-shooting match, J. \ Wohlers, of Wangaratta, and H. J. Bye (University), led with 195 points each. They were followed by P. A. Pavey (Caulfield), G. Robinson (Geelong), F. R. Birchnall (Bendigo), G, E. Ellis (Collingwood) and W. E. Johnson (Melbourne), each 193. A strong, cold wind after a stormy night interfered with the shooting. Pavey won the event with a score of 337 out of a possible 355. He shot brilliantly in the variable weather.
