EXPORTS OF MEAT.

LAMB AND MUTTON INCREASE DECLINE IN BEEF AND PORK. FIGURES FOR FIVE MONTHS. Further large increases in tlio killings of sheep and lambs for export during the first five months of the present season aro •shown in figures supplied by the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board. There was an appreciable decline in the killings of entile, however, and the exports of pork, both porkers and baconors, also showed a decrease. Increases are recorded for boneless beef and sundries. Killings of sheep during the period from October 1 last year to the end of February this year increased by over 600,000 to 1,696,000 carcases, and those of lambs by over 800,000 to nearly 5,000,000 carcases. The following table shows the classes of slock killed for export in the Dominion during the live months, compared with the corresponding period in the previous season:—

North and South Islands. Tlio separate killings at North Island and South island works were as follows, the figures for the previous season being given in parentheses:— North Island.—Beef (quarters), 18,640 (45,333) • wethers (carcases), 776,614 (646,989) ; ewes (carcases), 677,551 (353,949) ; lambs (carcases), 3,161,137 (2,543,361); porkers (carcases), 62,768 (68,911); baconers, 12,637 (19,444). South Island. Wethers (carcases), 46,826 ( 46,697) ; ewes (carcases), 195,827 (36,277); lambs (carcases), 1,749,775 (1,547,863); porkers (carcases), 265, (439) ; baconers (carcases), 930 (163). During the five months of the current season the total number of quarters of beef exported from Dominion ports was 42,551, as against 45,694 in the same period of the preceding season. Mutton exported totalled 886,574 carcases, cornpared with 1,082,342; lambs, 2,707,723, compared with 2,407,559; and pork, 49,992, compared with 66,783. Bags of boneless beef exported totalled 95,159, as against 51,121. Ports of Destination. The chief ports of destination of exports are shown in the following tables, the comparative figures of the previous season also being given :

Exports During Last Month. In February, 1295 quarters of beef were exported, 691 being for Liverpool, 356 for London, 191 for Glasgow, and 57 for Vancouver. Mutton sent overseas during the month totalled 317,533 carcases, the main ports of destination being London (263,812), Liverpool (31,782), Avonniouth (11,576), and Glasgow (6714). Exports of lamb amounted to 1,011,206 carcases, the chief individual totals being London, 729,187; Liverpool, 152,920; and Avonmoulh, 69,004. There were 12,218 carcases of pork exported, of which 7675 were for London, 1985 for Liverpool, 1446 for Glasgow, and 1112 for Avonniouth. The stocks in store in New Zealand at the end of last month, as compared with those at the same time last year were: — Beef (quarters), 15,631 (26,892); wethers (carcases), 359,423 ( 313,572) ; ewes (carcases), 525,454 ( 200,959); lambs (carcases), 1,977,054 (1,468,971); porkers (carcases), 20.813 (18,883) ; baconcrs (carcases), 7245 (8172). In addition, there were 1289 quarters of beef, 172,672 carcases of mutton, 448,624 carcases o f lamb and 6863 carcases of pork loaded in ships which had not sailed from the Dominion on February 29.
