OTTAWA CONFERENCE.
SIR J. PARR'S VIEWS. "NO PERSONAL AMBITIONS." [BY TELEGRAPH.—PUESS ASSOCIATION.] HASTINGS, Friday. In an address to the Rotary Club, Sir James Parr, in urging closer Empire trade, sa ; d it -was important that New Zealand should be represented at the Ottawa Conference by men of the right attitude of mind and •with the requisite knowledge. He thought the Prime Minister should be the principal delegate and that accompanying him should be two or three assistant delegates with special knowledge. As was usual the real work of the conference would probably be done by various committees. It was very important that New Zealand should be represented on these committees and in the private discussions which would take place with the British representatives by mea possessed of expert detailed knowledge of New Zealand's position and requirements. Only in this way could we hope for a trade agreement with Britain of real benefit to the primary producers. In conclusion, Sir James Parr" said hi» own. name had been mentioned, but he had no personal ambitions for himself. His real ambition and heartfelt desire was to see the policy of closer economic union within the Empire, to which he had devoted himself heart and soul for three years, brought to successful fruition. He desired above all to see a sheltered and sure market in Britain for New Zealand's primary producers and he was willing to help in any capacity.
