WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
Huntly.—The monthly meeting was held on Wednesday, Mrs. G. Liddle presiding. It was decided that Mrs. G. Liddle be elected to attend the forthcoming conference at Hamilton. A library was also formed, Mrs. T. Chisholm. being appointed librarian. The roll call, " Household Remedies," brought forth many and varied hints. Several competitions and games were held, winners in the competition being Mesdames Dodds, Craig and Chisholm. Supper was served, after which community singing brought a pleasant evening to a close. Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Russell and Wilson. Paparoa.—The February meeting of the Paparoa Instituto was held at the Jubilee Hall recently. A collection of articles arrived for the "Thrift Table," and the members voted for the 12 best articles for the North Kaipara Agricultural Association's show. Musical items by Mrs.,E. R. Jenkins, Misses E. Lindquist, M.* Jenkins and J. Wilson were very much enjoyed. The hostesses were Mrs. Clements, Mrs. A. Dodds, Mrs. Underwood, 'Mrs. Bpreham and Miss Lois Snowden. Paeroa. —The newly-elected president, Mrs. E. V. Sly field, presided at a meeting of the institute. After business was dispensed with the members were entertained with a musical programme and a reading by Mrs. C. E. James, entitled "Women of the Ages." Competitions were held and a cake donated, by Mrs. R. J. Roberts was won by Mrs. Hunter, who guessed the correct weight. The roll call, "Hints on Jam-making," brought forth many useful bints. The hostesses were Mesdames Slyfield, Roberts, James, Hales, Lowry, McKec, D. Marshall and Evans.
Taurikura. —There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Taurikura Women's Institute. r i lie competition, something useful made from a flourbag, resulted in a good display of articles, most points going (o Mrs. Mcßae. During the afternoou Mrs. E. Brown played a pianoforte solo, and Mrs. Urquhart contributed a song. % Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mcsdames Wilson, Mcßae and Davison. Hikutaia.—Members of the Hikutaia Institute recently spent a delightful afternoon at Bushy Park, Omahu, the home of Mrs. E. Elliott. Games and competitions were enjoyed, the winner of the most points being Mrs. Hunter, of Paeroa, and Mrs. Tompkins, Hikutaia, 2. Songs rendered by Mrs. Champion (Auckland) were greatly appreciated, and the afternoon was brought to a dose by the president thanking Mrs. and Miss Elliott 011 behalf of thoso present for a very pleasant afternoon. Among those present were 'Mrs.- Evans Lipshaqi and Mrs. McKee tlunle'r, oi the I'aeroa Institute, and a number of Hikutaia members.
Tangowahine-Avoca.—The institute held its monthly mooting in the '.I angowahine Ilall last week. Mrs. J. Hemphill presided owing to the absence of Mrs. B. Coleman. Tt Mas decided to make a patch-work quilt and givo it to some poor and needy family in the district. A competition was hold while tlie hostesses were preparing Innch, and was won by Mrs. R. Burrow. The hostesses were: —Mrs. IT. Mooney, Mrs. L. Mcintosh and Mrs. Hodsyll. Ngaruawahia.—The first meeting of the year of the Ngarnawahia Institute was held recently in the Masonic Hall. It was decided to provide a " dorcas bag ' for needy cases anil a committee was formed to make the necessary arrangements. A decorated vase competition was won by Mrs, Burke. A very interesting demonstration of raflia flower-making, given by Mrs. Fuller, was greatly appreciated. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses. Mesdames Burgess, Welch and Burke.
Warkworth. —The Wnrkworth Institute hold its annual meeting recently. The election of officers resulted as follows: — President, Mrs. E. .T. Colville; vice-pre-sidents, Mrs. Brackennig and Brown; secretary, Mrs. Bond; treasurer, Mrs. L. R. Civil; committee, Mesdames E. .T. Colville, Brackennig, Brown, Bond, L. R. Civil, Carron, Colins, Simpson, Stubbs and Pethrick. The retiring president and secretary, Mrs. Civil and Mrs. Colville, were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their efforts during the year. Mrs. E. J. Colville was appointed delegate to attend the conference in Auckland in May. The members were the guests of the retiring committee at supper.
