SKI-ING ON SANDHILLS.

WEST COAST EXPERIMENT.

EXPERIENCE FOR SNOW AREAS.

Sand ski-ing was attempted by a number of members of the Alpine Sports Club who spent the week-end in camp alongside tho Weiti Stream at Te Henga, West Coast. Ordinary snow skis were used, the members receiving instruction in their use from Mr. L. M. Lennard. It is believed that sand ski-ing has not been attempted previously in New Zealand.

The ski-ing was carried out on the slopes of several very steep sandhills in the vicinity, and most, of the members made good progress. The sand was too dry for perfect ski-ing conditions, but members nevertheless gained valuable experience.

The attendance was a record for weekend camps organised by the club, there being over 60 members present. Scenic attractions in the neighbourhood were visited during the week-end.
