TE AROHA RACES.

SUCCESSFUL OPENING.

PETER JACKSON'S CUP.

SEVERAL OUTSIDERS WIN.

BIFORM'S LARGE DIVIDEND.

EXAGGERATION, LEI TRIM.

The Te Aroha Jockey Club's annual meeting was opened very successfully under fine weather conditions on Saturday. Special interest centres in the meeting because. of the bold policy of tho club in maintaining stakes at a high level, exceeded in the Auckland Province only by the Auckland Racing Club. Excellent racing, a good attendance, estimated at about 7000, and a very satisfactory totalisator turnover justified the enterprise shown, and with every prospect of fine weather again to-day, the final returns should be pleasing to the club. Tho totalisator. .handled £18,284, compared with £24,277 10s on tho first day last year, a decrease of £599-3 10s, or 24 per cent. Tho fact that there was a very large dividend in the opening event, while two later winners paid double figures', and another ono very little less, undoubtedly affected the turnover.
