NEW BOARD'S FIRST SITTING. WELLINGTON BUS AREA. [BV TELEGRAPH. —FRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Friday. Licences for running motor omnibus and service-car services were dealt with by the Central Licensing Authority appointed under the Transport Act, 1931, which held its first meeting at Wellington to-day. Thirteen licences were granted, covering all the omnibus services between Wellington and the outlying suburbs, and two motor-car services to Martinborough One licence, for a service between Paekakariki and Wellington. was refused. The representatives of the interests concerned addressed their views to a board which consisted of Mr. S. S. Allen (acting-chairman), Mr. H. B. S. Johnstone and the Commissioner of Transport', Mr. J. S. Hunter. The Wellington City Council's proposals for a central bus area at Lambton Station weie outlined, and although several objections were voiced by various bus proprietors, the board refused to grant any licences, except on condition that the Wellington terminus should he as prescribed by the Wellington City Council. The board will sit to-morrow to consider an application for licences from three services running between Wellington and Masterton. Outlining the procedure to be adopted, the chairman said the applications would be dealt with in much the same way as if they were presented in the Law Courts. The applicant for a licence would state his case and call evidence if necessary. Then the opposition, if any, would be heard and the applicant would have the right to reply. Mr. Allen said the board was unfortunately handicapped for its first sitting in the absence of the chairman, Mr. .Justice Frazer, who would not be available for any of the present sittings in Wellington. The chairman said it. was realised, the board would not be able to please everyone, but it would give the best consideration to every case presented.
