WORK OF W.C.T.U.
THE REMUERA BRANCH
The first meeting for the year of the Remuera branch of the W.C.T.U. was held in tho Methodist Schoolroom. There was a good attendance, Mrs. Hugh Kaspcr, tho president for the Auckland district, was in tho chair, and gave an interesting address. Mrs. Kasper alluded to tho regrettable increase of so-called " homo brew" and pointed out that whereas the law allows 2! ; per cent, alcohol in non-intoxicating liquors for sale, it is a fact that in some instances the percentage of alcohol in " homo brew" is as high as 33 per cent. Attention was also drawn by Mrs. Kasper to the proximity of Founder's Day, February 17 being tho natal day of Frances Willard, tho founder of tho great world movement, tho W.C.T.U. A collection was taken with a view to a donation being forwarded to headquarters mission fund, in grateful remembrance of the life and work of Frances Willard. Mrs. Fred Daldy was elected as delegate, to represent the Remuera branch at the forthcoming National Convention, to bo held in Wanganui during tho month of March.
