FIRE AT TAIHAPE.
RAILWAY STORE DAMAGED.
FLAMES HELD IN CHECK
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAIHAPE, Thursday.
A fire broke'' out in the railway locomotive bulk store at Taihape at seven o'clock last evening. The alarm was given by means of engine whistles causing a stir in the town. Railwavmen near the scene of the conflagration soon had a lead of hose playing on the fire and kept the flames in check until the fire brigade arrived and subdued the outbreak.
The contents of the store were only slightly affected, but portions of the building were badly damaged. Had the fire got out of control, the consequences would have been serious, as the locomotive office adjoins the bulk store, while a few feet away stands the issuing store, containing a large quantity of oil and benzine, besides valuable machinery.
