HELPING THE RAILWAYS.

NEWSPAPER ADVERTISING. In an interview concerning methods of increasing railway traffic, Mr. W. 11. Simpson, assistant general passenger agent of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fc Railway, stated:— "More of our advertising money is spent in newspapers than in all other mediums combined. That shows what the Santa Fe thinks of newspaper space." A similar view was expressed by Mr. N. L. Howard, president of the Great Western Railway, Chicago, who declared :

"In my opinion, the most satisfactory results are obtained from newspaper advertising, and especially if continued for a reasonable period of time, because the newspapers are more widely read now than ever before, and the publichas been educated to search the advertising columns of tho daily press to find out where the articles they want can be purchased to best advantage."
