PROTECTION OF BATHERS.
PATROLS FOR THE BEACHES.
NEW SCHEME PROPOSED.
Adequate protection of bathers on Auckland beaches is to be undertaken by the Auckland Centre of the Royal LifeSaving Society, subject to the necessary authority and assistanco of tho Auckland City Council. A progressive scheme which will involve the Motuihi Marine Park, and then Point Chevalier and Mission Bay, was adopted at a special meeting of the Auckland Centre last evening. Mr. L. Brighton presided. It was decided to approach tile City Council and place the objects of the Life Guard patrol movement before it and to seek the aid of the council in the scheme, which is a safety measure for the protection of citizens, but requires a certain amount of life-saving equipment. Members of the Milford and Takapuna Surf Life-Saving Clubs will undertake to supply three guards weekly for a few weeks until some of the award holders of tho Royal Life-Saving Society aro available. All malo holders of the award of merit between the ages of 18 and 25 years are to be given the privilego of offering their services.
When the scheme is in full working order business houses and picnic committees will be able to call upon the services of a team to accompany tlieni upon any harbour or beach excursion.
