MINING BAN LIFTED.
STATE FORESTRY AREAS.
REMOVAL OF RESTRICTIONS,
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES, Monday.
The restrictions on the mining of coal in State forestry areas havo been removed, according to advice received in Thames from Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P. A condition stipulates that sufficient safeguards must bo taken against fire in the afforestation areas.
Although the Mining Act prohibited prospecting in Stato forestry areas, the restrictions had been waived in many instances. Mining of coal had been prohibited, however, on an area at Maramarua, Waikato. Agitation has now led to the removal of the restrictions.
