WAIKATO APPOINTMENT.

APPLICANTS TOTAL 283. [from our own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Friday. The committee representing the Waikato, Waipa and Raglan County Councils has selected Mr. Robert Metcalfe, of Te Awamut'u, as traffic inspector over the roads between Mercer and Hamilton. Thero were 283 applicants for the position, which carries with it a salary of £5 a week. Among tho applicants were professional men with engineering and law degrees. Mr. Metcalfe was formerly traffic inspector to the Te Awamutu Borough Council.
