LEAGUE OF PENWOMEN.
i OWELCOME TO FILM ACTOR. An interesting account of working conditions at Elstree, London, where 110 has : appeared in a number of picture produc- ; tions, was given by Mr. John Batten yesterday afternoon when he was entertained by members of the. League of Penwomrn. In extending a cordial welcome to Mr. Batten, the president, Mrs. Victor Macky, referred to the fact that he was a nephew of Mrs. Laird Cook, one of tho founders of the league, who is at present living in England. • Mr. Batten gave an entertaining description of his work in picture productions and also described his experiences of television in New York, when he broadcast two sketches by this means. Two Maori songs of her own composition were sung by Mrs. Harold King and were very much appreciated. Afternoon tea brought 1 to a close a very pleasant gathering.
