STOCKS AND SHARES.
THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. HEAVIER TRADING RECORDED. Fairly heavy trading al stesdier levels was recorded on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Little mavam«nt took place in the market for Government Joans, the only loss being a fall of 2s 6d in 1936 5j per cent, bonds, which were released *at £B9 His. Late rates were realisod for 1938 4£ per cent, stock and also for 1937 54 per cents, which changed hands at £95 and £39 12s 6d respectively. Interest remained restricted in banks, but at the same time there was little evidence of selling pressure. Commercials of Australia again lost ground with offers 2d lower at 14s 4d. Holders reduced their price a similar amount to 14s 7d. Supplies of Now Sooth Wales were completely absorbed in two transactions at tie unaltered price of £26 ss. There was further inquiry at £25 15s, New Zealands advanced 3d in business at 45s 3d. Unions were offered 2s lower at £7 9s, no buyers quoting. Sellers continued to predominate in insurance, in which New Zealands were taken at the current price of 40s.^ The market for Auckland Gas steady. Quotations for ordinary shares were unaltered and the contributing issu« was secured at 16s Id, representing a fall of lid on rates existing before payment of the reduced dividend. New Zealand Breweries were released 3d easier at 25s 3d.
Jfore activity was displayed in miscellaneous investments, several leading indiastriaJs showing a slight improvement. Byerofts at 28s 3d were up 3d on prehoiiday levels and Colonial Sugars recovered Is in two transactions at £3B ss. Offers for more, -which were reinstated at £3, were 10s firmer than the previous day's dosing jxnetv Holders again qooteri £35 10s. Farmers' Tradings were done again at 6s 6d. Dealing also took place, for the first time for soma months, in Xew Zealand Brags which had sale at 46s od, a nf>9 of la od. In mining holders of Waiins asked a pennv more at 17s 2d. Bswinaw was done in King Salomons, Golden Points and Gkantea at unchanged rates.
