TRANSPORT SERVICES.
GRANTING OF LICENCES. WORK OF CENTRAL BOARD. [EY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Friday. The Central Transport Board, compiling Mr. Justice Frazer, Mr. S. S. Allen and Mr. H. B. S. Johnstone, has held its first meeting to discuss matters of procedure, and will commence its formal sittings about February 17. This board has the important duty of granting licences for motor transport services where they extend beyond one local transport area, as the new legislation requires all transport services to be licensed. Applications have been received by the Transport Department, from all parts of the Dominion. Already they number 550, and more are being received. Existing services are automatically entitled to a licence for one year. The board will eventually have to visit the principal centres to determine questions affecting more than one licensing area. The Government has under : sideration the personnel of 10 districttransport licensing boards, which will function in addition to the four metropolitan licensing authorities.
