YORKSHIRE AND GERMANY KEEN,

LONDON. Feb. 2. At the London wool sales to-day 11,008 bales were offered, including 5112 from New Zealand, and about 7062 were sold. The sales closed with prices at the highest level of the scries. Yorkshire and Germany were very active. Compared with December closing prices most were higher. Merinos were up 5 per cent., spinners' sorts 5 per cent, and topmakers' sorts 7i per cent. Scoured comb ings were unchanged; short pieces 5 per cent, higher. Crossbreds, fine, were 5 per cent, higher;, medium, coarse and slipes, unchanged to a slight advance. The total wool catalogued was 128,598 bales. Sales were as follow: Home, 65,500 bales; Continent, 50,000; America, 1000. The amount held over was 62,000 bales, including: Australian, 25,500; New Zealand, 38,500. Approximate sales were: Australian, 64,000 bales; New Zealand, 46,0C0. REPORTS FROM MERCHANTS. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., has received the following cablegram from its London house, dated February 2:—The wool sales closed linn and activo, with good general competition. There was a full attendance. A good average selection was offered, Germany and the Home trade being the principal operators. French buyers operated on a small scale. As compared with the closing rates of the last series scoured Merino was unchanged, except scoured Merino inferior and faulty, which was £d to Id higher; greasy Merino was par to £d higher; greasy half-bred, ,',d to jjd higher; greasy crossbred fine, J,d to 2d higher; hoggets, higher; superior greasy crossbred medium, -Jd to £d higher; greasy crossbred,, other descriptions, unchanged; scoured crossbred, jd to Id higher; fine slipe, par to higher; other descriptions slipe unchanged.

The total offered was 128,398 bales. The Home trade has liought 65,500 bales; Continent, 50,000. bales; America, 1000 bales. Carried forward, 23,500 bales Australian, 38,500 bales' New Zealand. The total number sold was 116,500 bales.

Quotations are:—Half-bred (56-58), good to super, 12d to 13Jd; low to medium, 9id to llgd; half-bred (50-56), good to super, to 12d; low to medium, 8d to 10^1; fine crossbred (48-50), good to super, 7|d to BJd; low to medium, sj}d to 7d; fine crossbred (46-48), good to super, 6|d to 7id ; low to medium, to 6£d; crossbred" (44-46), good to sujjrfc-, to 7d; low to medium, 5d to 6d; crossbred (40-44) ) good to super, 6d to 6§d; low to medium 4|d to s^d; coarse crossbred (36-40), good to super, to 6^d; low to medium, 4Jd to sid. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advico from its London office dated February 2:—'Hie wool sales have closed firm for all kinds of wool. Quotations: —Greasy Merino, (60-64's), lid to 12d per lb.; greasy Merino, ordinary (60-64's). 8d to 9d ; greasy Merino, inferior (60-64's), 7d to 7jd; greasy halfbrcds (56's), to llj,d; greasy half-brcds (50-56's), Bid to g«il; greasy crossbreds (50's), to greasy crosbreds, (48-50's), 6id to Td; greasy crossbreds (46-48's), sjd to 6id; greasy crossbreds (44-46's), sid to 6d: greasy crosbreds (40-44's), sJ>d to s®d; greasy crossbreds, (36-40's),. sjd to The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cablegram from its London office, dated February 2:—As compared with the closing rates at the last sales, prices are higher, par to id per lb. for lambs Merino and crossbred, medium crossbred slipe. medium scoured crossbred: higher id per lb. for greasy Merino, fine greasy crossbred and fine crossbred slipe; higher £d to Id per lb. for fine scoured crossbred. Others are unchanged. The sales closed firmly. Homo buyers are the principal operators. Compel ition on Continental account is active. Prices for average to super grades of descriptions as below were as follows:—Merino super, 10id to 112<1; Merino, average, B|d to 9^d; crossbred, 56/58, lid to 13d: 50/56. to Hid; 48/50, 7d to Bid: 46/48, 6d to 7d ; 44/46, 52d to 6id; 40/44, 5Jd to 6d; 36/40, s>l to 52<1 -

SYDNEY RATES MAINTAINED. KEEN DEMAND REPORTED. (Received February 3, 10.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. Feb. 3. At Ihe Sydney wool sales to-day 10,368 bales were offered and 9588 were sold. Also 488 bales were disposed of privately. Prices ruled firm. There was keen demum! and satisfactory clearances were made. Creasy Merino sold to 22Jd.
