HEALING THE SICK.

ATTITUDE OF THE CHURCH. SERVICES IN ENGLAND. LONDON. Jan. 25. The Canterbury Convocation has decided in favour of provisional services for anointing the sick and the laying on of hands. The Bishop of Southwark, Dr. Garbett. proposing the motion, declared that at a time when Christian Science propaganda was most active the Church 8 attitude should clearly be proclaimed. " I regard the unction and the layingon of hands as a useful ancient symbolism whereby the Church expresses the Lord s care and love," he said, " but it will cause the greatest harm if it is believed that we are pledging the restoration of health. We must emphasise the need of the spiritual preparation of the anointee. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Cosmo Lang, declared that it was important not to propagate the idea that tha clergy were entrusted with special powers of healing the sick by virtue of their ordination.
