RAIN AFTER DRY SPELL.
SOUTH CANTERBURY CROPS. As a result of the rain which fell practically throughout the whole of South Canterbury in the latter part of last week, rape and turnip crops will benefit very materially. In some areas the fall over Friday and Saturday reached an inch, lull there were districts where the rain fell but intermittently, and while it will benefit any worked up ground, was not. nearly sufficient to promote a growth of grass. Forty points was the most which any district recorded on Friday morning. In the early hours of Saturday morning, however, rain again set in, and this time it continued for several hours.
