SEARCH FOR GOLD.
SUBSIDISING PROSPECTORS. " WORTH-WHILE " WORK. Every encouragement is being given to experienced goldminers by the Unemployment Board to prospect likely areas or to prepare promising claims for further development, in various localities on the West Coast. These men receive a subsidy from the board's funds, the rate for married men being 30s per week and that for single men 15s weekly. In some instances satisfactory results have been reported, while in most cases the men are obtaining returns which they consider better than they were receiving under the relief scheme. The point to be emphasised is that these men are engaged in work that is " worth while," and that might possibly lead to important discoveries, of minerals.
