HISTORIC MANSION.
SITE IN LONDON SOLD. MEMORIES AND TREASURES. LONDON, Nov. 15. Lansdowne House, ono of the most historic mansions in London, built for Lord Bute in 1766, will be shorn of much of its picturesqueness by the sale of portion of its site. The Bruton Club Estate "has paid £107,000 for the part sold, and, in addition to subdividing it, will make a new road to replace the picturesque Lansdowne Passage, in order to connect Berkeley and Curzon Streets. Lansdowne House cost Lord Bute £22,000. In it Priestley, in 1774, discovered oxygen, and the conferences were held which led to the independpnee of America. It contains many art treasures, notably the Lansdowne marbles.
