WOMAN STOWAWAY.
DISCOVERY ON SIERRA. RETURN ON PILOT LAUNCH. A young woman who stowed away on the Matsan' Line steamer Sierra was discovered as the ship was leaving Sydney for Auckland, where the vessel arrived on Saturday morning. The woman was mingling with the other passengers and was observed by one of the ship's officers. - After she had been questioned the woman was lowered into the pilot launch at Sydney Heads. She was made to don a lifebelt, and, although she protested violently, was placed safely on board the launch. A rope was slipped round her as a precaution against accident as she descended the rope ladder. It was gathered that the voung woman wanted to go to San Francisco. She had no money.
