CITY MURDER MYSTERY.
SEVERAL MEN QUESTIONED. POLICE FIX TIME* OF CRIME. GIRLS WHO HEARD MOAN. & In spite of the most vigorous efforts * by the detectives in charge of the case, the mystery surrounding the death of Mr. Arthur James Blcmfield, the chemist who received fatal injuries when he was attacked in his shop in Wellesley Street East three weeks ago, still remains unsolved. Since the crime was comfnitted, the police have covered a vide field in their investigations, and many men answering to the description of the man who was seen in the locality about the time of the murder have been interviewed. Several of these have been ciosely examined in the detective office, while others have been paraded for identification by the two persons who gave the police a description of the wanted man. None of the men was identified. The main difficulty which confronts the police is the fact that the description of the man whose whereabouts are sought would fit a very large number ,of persons. The exact time that the crime was committed has been definitely fixed 'by the police at 5.2 p.m. Several girls employed in the Plummer ftat Company's factory, in Lome Street, left the building at 5 p.m. and walked along Lome Street and then down Wellesley Street. As they were passing the pharmacy, they heard the sound of Breaking glass, which was followed by .other sounds, including a moan and a thud. One of the girls stopped, and made as if to go into the shop, but the others did rot pay ' any great attention to the noises, thinking that the nroan was made by sornn person who ' had been removed to the shop for treatment after, a ,small accident. They all continued on their way to Queen Street to obtain tramcars for their homes. When the crime became known to the public, the girls recalled the incident, and reported the matter to the police, all of them stating definitely that it was two minutes past five when they passed the shop. None of them saw any signs of the criminal in the vicinity- afterwards.
