WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
Dargaville.—The monthly meeting ,of the Dargaville Institute; was held at the' residence of Mrs. C. H. Crump last week, when a very profitable and enjoyable j evening was spent by _a large number of members., A demonstration of mak.~ng bouquets with sweets was given by Miss G. Drummond. The hostesses were Wesdames Chester, D. Crump, P- Hill and Miss F. Drummond. Hangatiki.—At the November meeting of the institute a very instructive address on "First Aid in the Home" was given by Dr. Gilberd, of Otorohanga. A roll call, "A Christmas present costing not more than Is 6d," forth many ideas for both dainty and useful gifts. The hostesses for the afternoon -vers Mesdames McClymont, Baskett and SBoard. . N garuawa hi a.—A t a meeting ot the Ngaruawahia. Institute, a lesson m moccasin making was given by Mrs. Dunn, of Pukemiro, and a demonstration of raffia work was given by Mrs. Burkg£t Mesdames Bowe, Menzies and Mcßuiney were hostesses. Paparoa.-—At a meeting of the Paparoa Institute, a demonstration of drawing patterns was given by Mrs. Cullen, of Waipu; also a demonstration of, caneicing bv Miss Mary Jenkins, assisted by Mrs. Cullen. A display of knitting was much admired. The Christmas stall and trading table were well patronised. .A competition, guessing the weight, ol an iced cake, was won by Mrs. E. 0. Evan? and Miss L. Dodds. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. R. Maisev, Mrs. Boyde, Mrs. C. Jenkins, Mrs. A. Rogers and Mrs. Trask. Te Kowhai.—At the November meeting of the institute the president read the report of the federation conference held in Auckland. Novel demonstrations were given by Miss Picken, these being the making "of candlesticks from cotton reels and the use of rice as a decoration for pottery. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Bilkie,. Friedlander, Ga skill. Gibbison, Harris and Hocken. - . Whakatane.—At the annual meeting of the Whakatane Institute, the following officers were elected for the coming jeai . Mesdames Johnson (president), Stewart (secretary), Leaning (treasurer), Canning, Garaway, Guest, Hansen, Haultain, Hogg, Orr and Miss Rarason. A number of suggestions for future programmes resulted from a round table discussion. Woodlands.—The annual meeting of the Woodlands (Opotiki) Institute was sided over by the president, Mrs.. Mulhern. The election of officers resulted as follows President, Mrs. Mulhern; secretary, Mrs. Pilkington; treasurer, Mrs. McMillan.
