the: clevedon society. Soma beautiful cut flowers were liibited. at the annual show held recently; by I.he Clevedon Horticultural and Industrial Society. There was a large crowd, which showed great interest, particularly in the magnificent roses, the delicate sweet peas and other miscellaneous flowers. Considerable taste was evident in the arrangement of the flowers in the floral artistry competition. Other sections were vegetables, in which the entries were below the usual'standard,- needle- ; work and children's classes. The judges in the flower sections were Mr. J. Rock (roses) and Mr.' E. Allen. Following are the awards in the rose section: — Champion.—Mrs. H. G. Brown's "Sachengruss," a large pink variety. Runner--up: Miss Margaret Dickson's "Hamill." Eighteen varieties: Mrs. D. M. The Whakatane Horticultural Society'® annual show was opened at the Winter Show buildings this afternoon by Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P. The judge, Mr. TV G. Johnston, stated -that the roses wer«> not up to last year's standard, but tha display of general cut llowers was tho finest, he had judged. Points prizes were won as follows» Rose bowl trophy: Dr. F. J. Appleby, 50, 1; R. F. Smith. 23, 2. Silver cup for cut flowers: Mrs. D. Pattie. Silver cup, decorative: Mrs. Murphy. Special prizes were awarded as follows: Best salmon pink rose and gold rose: Dr. J. C. Wudmore. Champion rose: Dr. F J. Appleby. Collection: Mrs. D. Pattie. Floral court, AVhakaiane, 1; Edgecumbe, 2.
