LECKIE AND JOHNS TO-NIGHT. The light-weight boxing championship of New Zealand will be decided lit the Town Hall this* evening, when Johnny Leckie, of Napier, will take the ring against he holder, Harry Johns, of Auckland. This match should prove to be one of the best attractions the Northern Boxing Association has staged for some years. Leclcie, who formerly held the. feather-weightcluunpionslup of the Dominion, is well-known all ovei New Zealand, as lie has fought in d'fferen l centres with much success durint, the l a»t few years. At his best lie was recognised as being one of the finest natural hghteis this country has produced. Those who saw him defeat Tommy Donovan at ISew Ily mouth recently aver that Leckie is r 'eht back to his best form If such be the crise the Auckland public will see something lor its money to-night. . , . Harry Johns has a large following in tins city Since turning professional he has a verv creditable record against such men as Donovan and Hilghes. among others. In his recent, match with Hughes the Aueklander proved himself a game fighter, lhat. contest was a thrilling one for the spectators, but it. looks like being eclipsed by to-night s attraction. , Several well-known amateurs _ will take part in the preliminaries, which should prove of a high standard. Among the competitors in this section is R._ Purdie, leatherweight champion of New Zealand, who is likely to represent the Dominion at the Olympic Gaines in Los Angeles next year.
