TAKANINI TRACK NEWS.
PREPARING FOR TAKAPUNA. TEA TRADER WORKS WELL. HALF-MILE WITH HIGH COMEDY. Although rain threatened at Takunini on Saturday it held off until training operations were concluded. Most of the fast work was recorded on the inside grass, which was in splendid order. Exaggeration (Taylor) was going better than Holly Lu (Gilmer) over three furlongs in 38 2-i's. Exaggeration is progressing nicely and Holly Lu is now free of his recent joint trouble. Willi a good run up Tea Trader (Horne) and High Comedy (Walters) covered half a mile in 49 2-ss, being on terms at the end, with' Tea Trader going particularly well. This colt could have done a good deal belter and he looks a bright prospect for the juvenile race at Takapuna. High Comedy also pleased and he is in good order for immediate engagements. Principal (Taylor), alone, ran seven furlongs in 1.35, moving lazily throughout. Refresher (Stewart) and Tea Chat (Bagby) jumped away at the finishing post and ran five furlongs in 1.2 3-5, finishing together. Both horses worked pleasingly and both have prospects iri the sprint on Saturday. Their first half-mile took 49 2-ss. Gay Marigold (lnglis) and Closing Time (Jones) were on terms at tho end of halfa mile in 51 4-ss, upon which they could have improved. They have already been relumed winners and are likely to race well whenever produced again. Timorous and Frolyxo. There was little between Yoicks (Moore) and Imperial Prince, (Gilmer) over half a mile in 51 l-ss. Neither has early engagements, but both aro making progress, and they may bo equal to showing some fornl after tho New Year.
Timorous (lnglis) and Prolyxo (Jones) had a rousing sprint over half a mile, which both finished well in 49 1 -ss, being on t'erni3 at tho end. Tlieso two are to contest-tho Cambria Handicap on Saturday and Timorous, with previous experience to aid her, may prove the better of the pair. Ganpat (Jones), Chief Jewel (lnglis) and Amber Link (Gilmer) were all abreast at the-end of six furlongs in 1.1*5 3 5. All went freely aud tho fact that none was asked for its best showed how fast were tho track conditions. Chief Jewel's leg filled after he waß galloped on at Te Rapa, but ho has made a good recovery and did his gallop without showing any ill-effects. Ganpat and Amber Link shaped well and it was the latter's best gallop to date. C. Morso has handled her very carefully and sho is now going further in her gallops. Let it iu (Moore) and Hauwiri (Bagby) sprinted from tho two furlongs in 265. They are more backward than oth.er juveniles, but Hauwiri is a fine big youngster that may make his mark in the autumn.
Prospects ol Heremia. Heremia (Mclnally) was assisted by Night Warrior (Burgess) over the first halt-mile of a seven-furlongs effort and then went on to finish in 1.37 2-5, after taking 52 3-5s for the half-mile. Heremia was never extended and could have knocked a lot of time off. He is ft fit- hors© that will find u. lot of favour in the High-weight Handicap on Saturday. On the plough Lady \ane (Mctarland) jumped sway clear of Koyal Artist (Home at the half-anile *pOßt, but the latter had made up the leeway at the end, the last three furlongs taking: 33 3-ss. Royal Artist worked well without being fully extended. Chief Joy (Inglis) Rot a break on \ all (Jones) at the start of sis furlongs on the plough and. going easily, he was m front throughout in 1.20. Vali made up ground on his work-mate, but Chief Joy was not doing his very best. He looks really well after hiu successful outing at Te Rapa_ and should continue to race, up to his best form. After racing at. To Rapa the two-year-old Greek Gold has been having an. easy time, but he is to be set going again immediately. with a view to racing at Ellerslie at Christmas. Eaglet, v*ho will - not race on Saturday, was sent ft mile and a-half on the plough at a sound pace. She is in good heart and so far has shown .no sign of being affected by the hard ground. Many others were out doing useful work, including White Wines, Knight of Australia, Pateena. Speedmint, Tut Mint-, Camp Princess, Bronze Eagle and Huntingdon.
