RICCARTON GOSSIP. LIKELY AUCKLAND VISITORS. GAY CREST AND GREAT STAR. [BY TELEGEAPIT. — OWN roRESPONDENT.] CHRIST CHURCH, Saturday. Matters al Ricoarton have been very quiet since the New Zealand Ciflh Meeting. Several horses have felt tho effects of racinz on the hard going which has prevailed for some time, and some teams have been depleted. The tracks continue to be very severe and although there was a lit.tlo relief by light showers which fell yesterday conditions will not be satisfactory until a heavy rainfall occurs. There will not be the usual exodus to the North Island during the holiday period, the majority of trainers being content to patronise the meetings nearer home.
C. Emerson has turned out the two-year-old fillies Lady Zephyr and Skysong and they may not race again for some months. Rose of Orange is to race at. Ashburton. Lochlaggan will probably be taken south for the holiday meetings, and Martian Chief, Oratorious, and Sleipnev (ire being kept in easy work Martian Chief and Oralorions .will make their reappearance at the Wellington Meeting in January. J. W. Jennings has a useful team in hand to represent his st'able during the holiday meetings, comprising Arrowmaid. Segrave. Royal Amphora and Iceni (Last Dart— Boadicea). As these all in the hack class they will probably be divided between the West Coast Hnd Southern fixtures. Great Star lias had an easy time since the Cup meeting but will soon resume serious work in view of his third trip in succession to Ellerslie for the Summer Meeting. In the last two years he has filled second place to Hunting Cry in the Railway Handicap. Present intentions are to give him another opportunity in the same race. . T. Lloyd has made tentative arrangements to take Gay Crest. Desert Song, Adelphi, Royal Baby and Tout le Mond to Woodvine for next mouth's meeting, and to go on from there to Ellerslie. The disappointing Semper Paratus, brother to Cricket Bat, lias found another owner. F. P. Claridge having purchased him at a small figure. Claridge has also taken over Tautbow, who has been leased by a client of the stable. Gustavo hits shown no ill-effects from his two races at the recent meeting and provided that ho goes on satisfactorily ho will be at Ellerslie at Christmas. A. McAulay's team has been reduced by True Shaft being turned out owing to continued soreness, while Nightguard will be put aside until the autumn. Riri has resumed active work. There is a possibility of taking him north for the Auckland Cup. _ If so he _will bo accompanied by Meprisant and Kakara. The four-year-old Red Royal, by Rosrnor. who has not fulfilled expectations, has been leased from Mr. G. Kain by a patron of S. Bnrr's stable. T. H. Gillett has an addition to his team, a. two-year-old gelding by Chief Ruler from Mazabuka, dam of Hard Words.
