SATURDAY'S SALES. • RETURN ON INVESTMENTS. Following is a list of Saturday's transactions on New Zealand Stock Exchanges. In thp second column is given the return, based on the last annual dividend, from investment at the quoted price. In the case of Government and other redeemable securities the return includes redemption. In calculating the returns on shares in companies which puy their dividends outside New Zealand exchange rates, being liablfe to fluctuation, have not been taken into consideration. An announcement that the usual halfyearly dividend of the Northern Steamship Company, Limited, will not. be paid this year was made on Saturday. "For many years it has been the custom of the company to pay a half-yearly dividend," the directors state. "Jn view, however, of the seriously depressed conditions common to all freighting to and from the country during the past winter, it has been deemed best to await the improved results already promising for the summer, and leave it to shareholders at the usual annual meeting to decide what dividend shall be paid on the year's results." Last year the company made a net profit of £4518, and paid a dividend of 7 per'eerit., against a net profit of £13,194 in 1929-30 and a dividend of 8 per cent., 'the rate paid since 1924-25. PUKEKOHE POTATOES. The recent prolonged spell of dry weather has adversely affected the potato crops in the Pukekohe district, and merchants report that grading is not expected to be up to the usual standard. Trices at present are firm at 12s a cwt. on trucks at Pukekohe. '
