NORTHCOTE WOMEN.
MEETING OF LEAGUE. At a meeting of the. Northcote Women's Progressive League, held yesterday afternoon, the vi';e-president, Mrs, F. \V. Wilkes, presided in the absence of the president, Mrs. D. P. 0 Lcavv, who was suffering from a recurrence of illness. Votes of condolence were passed to the relatives of the late, Mrs. Norman Heath, who for many years was a member of the league, and "to Mrs. J. Potter, on the rleath of her son, Mr. W. H. Potter. The motions were carried in silence, the members standing. Tho co-operation of all women in the endeavour to elect Miss Ellen Melville to Parliament was solicited in a letter front the women candidate's coumnnitteo at Auckland. The delegate, Mrs. P. Howden, reported upon the activities of the National Council of Women. A very pleasant afternoon was spent. Mrs. Culford Bell entertained the gathering with a lecture on "Poetry," and Airs. Wilkes recited "A Patchwork Quilt." The lecturer was accorded an appreciative vote of thanks, Afternoon tea was acrvod.
