TAKANINI TRACK NEWS. GANPAT AND SPEEDMINT. GOOD FIVE-FURLONG SPRINTS. I I Beyond laying the dust on the plouch | track, the drizzling overnight rain had no j effect on the tracks at Takanini yesterday, j and the inside grass, which was used for j most of the gallops, was very fast. Camp Princess (Gilmer) and Exaggeration (Taylor) were on terms, with the latter going slightly the better, at the end of six furlongs in 1.18, the last half-mile in 61 4-os. Camp Princess will be having her first run oi the season on Saturday, but she should (shape well. Imperial Prince (Lee) was easing iin slightly at. the finish of half a mile ill 52 2-5?. He hais made good progress since being operated upon for throat trouble. There was little between Chief Joy (Jones) and Chief Jewel (Inglis) at the end of five furlongs solidly run in 1.2 2-5. Chief Jewel is progressing well and Chief Joy is evidently none the worse for his trip to Sydney. , ~ ~ , , ; Greek Gold (Taylor) and Gay Marigold i (Jones) were on terms at. the end of three | furlongs smartly run in 30 2-ss. Greek i Gold had considerably the worse of the weights, and both youngster* worked j pleasingly. . Pateena, (Moore) was going a shade better than Principal I Gilmer) at the end ot six | furlongs in 1.18 1-5, but there was little merit in the gallon. Little notice need | be taken of Principal's tra'ck work, as he j is a. lazy worker. j ! Refresher (Stewart) was not at top while ■ i running five furlongs in 1.7 2-5. He has j not. been seriously tested lately, but is well j forward in condition. Timorous (Inglis) and Impudent, (Jones) were on terms at the end of three furlones in 375. Timorous showed more speed, but Impudent was running on solidly at the finish. , . Speedmint (Home) was a neck m_ front of Heremia (Burgess), with Knight of Australia (Gilmer) a couple of lengths awn v. at, the. end of five, furlongs in 1.2 4-5. "lie first-named pair were both on the bit and could have dons better. They did their work in very pleasing style. Ganpat (Inglifi) jumped away two lengths in front of Te.a Chat (Jones) and held a slight advantage at the end of five furlones in 1 2 1-5. actually the best of the morning from a time viewpoint. Ganpat should ran a good race in the Handicap to-morrow. Ten, Chat headed Ganpat at the turn, but he lost ground in the run home. . J T Jamieson has six acceptors nt le Rapa to-morrow, but it will not be decided j until to-dav which ones will make the trip. Greek Gold. Camp Princess and Princi- j pal will represent F. Smith's stable at loj Rapa. Speedmint- P. E. Pope's stable, and | others from Takanini that are regarded as j likely starters ure Ruffles and Reviver. !
NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE, j TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP, j Additional ridinsr engagements announced for the first day of the Waikato Racing i Club's Meeting at Te Rapa to-morrow in- I elude H. Gilmer. Camp Princess. } rincipal. | Welcome Lu; W. Taylor, Greek Gold; and G. Connor, Abbey Dream. Tetrarchate, who pulled up lame after , fr.lloping at F.llerslie last week, lias been ; turned out for a spell, and will probably j remain out for about four months letrnrrhate did not go right, amiss, but his owner decided that, it would be advisable to give him a rest rather than nsK a break- ( rlow n. Brampton and Speedfast. who are to com- j pete at the Waikato Racing Club's Merlin"' will make the trip through to lei Ra'pa by motor-float to-morrow morning. Speedfast was not- galloped yesterday, but he has been working soundly for a novice and is likely to run a good race in the Trial Stakes. Nothing very strenuous has been exacted from Karangapai since his return from Whangarei. but lie is looking well and appears to be :an improved horse for bis recent racing. • Yesterday ho was anxious to go faster when restricted to steady pacing on the tan and he should be in great heart to keep his engagement in the Takapuna Plate at the end of the month. DERBY OWNER'S SUCCESS. FOURTH VICTORY IN RACE. Ciro** victory in Hie New Zealand Trotting Derby yesterday gave the owner. Mr. II F Nicoll. of Afihburton, his fourth success in the 19 contests to (Inie His previous winners were Childe Pointer in 1921. Wrackler in 1928, and Are husa last year. All were bred by him. and Wrackler. Arethusn, and Ciro were sired by rack, who was importer) by him from Amftncji. Both Childe Pointer find Ciro c nun as their dam Pearlchild while A\ rackler and Arethusa are from TVix Jointer. Peailchild won the National Cup Handicap at Addington in 1015.
